About the panel

Thomas Phillips, Head of Geo Innovation & Insights, Swiss Re
Thomas is the owner of all geo-related datasets at Swiss Re, responsible for the sourcing, processing, publishing, and hosting of data used in spatial analytics across the Swiss Re portfolio. He focuses on optimizing already existing data architecture, processes, and models with new innovative approaches to improve stability, scalability and performance. Thomas has experience working with scientists, engineers, brokers, stakeholders, and decision makers to develop the best scientific solution without losing focus on the economic benefit. He holds a PhD in Geography, Civil Engineering, and Remote Sensing from the University of Colorado Boulder.

Cory Isaacson, CEO, reThought
As an experienced insurance thought leader and software executive, Cory has run over 7 companies in his career with 5 successful acquisitions. Most recently he accomplished a successful turnaround product as CTO of RMS, and is now CEO at reThought Insurance, an exciting venture in the Flood insurance space. Cory is the named inventor on 4 patents, has authored two books and numerous technology articles for a variety of publications, and has presented talks at many technology conferences, addressing 1000s of software professionals. 

Alex Taylor, Global Head of Emerging Technology, QBE Ventures 
Alex is the Global Head of Emerging Technology of QBE Ventures, the venture investment and development arm of QBE Insurance. Alex and the team invest in, build alongside and partner with early-stage technology companies that have the potential to reshape the insurance industry.  Alex is an innovation and disruption specialist and futurist, helping established companies to  see where the threats lie, and how they can play in the same field and with the same tools as the disrupters – and has spoken before a wide range of audiences on the Horizon 1 to Horizon 3 innovation and disruption journey, and how to navigate the bridge between.  As the technology lead on a number of AI/ML investments in VC and CVC environments,  Alex has lived the challenge of applying machine learning and related technologies in highly  regulated environments - from visual and voice analytics, customer sentiment platforms and IoT to the challenges of vehicular automation.  Before joining QBE, Alex was the Director of Emerging and Innovation Technology and also Entrepreneur in Residence at IAG.

Lisa Wardlaw, Insurance Digital Strategist
Lisa is an innovative, highly-experienced insurance executive who combines her deep decades of experience serving as CXO (CFO, COO, CSO) for some of the largest insurance institutions (e.g., MunichRe, Farmers/Zurich, ING/Voya, PwC) with her entrepreneurial drive to rapidly help startups succeed in the insurance industry in North America.  Her thought leadership, ability to create innovative and ingenuitive insurance solutions across P&C, life and health insurance marketplace provides targeted guidance and solutions to expedite launching insurtechs across North America and globally.

Jai Mehra, Senior Associate - Strategy & Business Development, Ecopia
Jai is a Senior Associate on the insurance team at Ecopia, a technology company founded with the mission of leveraging AI to create a digital twin of the earth. Ecopia applies advanced AI technology to mine geospatial imagery, outputting large-scale, highly-accurate digital maps & related information products. Prior to joining the firm in 2021, Jai worked at PwC where he was responsible for advising clients and internal stakeholders within the financial services industry on strategic initiatives and operational risk challenges. Jai holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance with a minor in Economics from Rutgers Business School.
