Ecopia AI & Nearmap Partner to Create Advanced 3D Vector Map Products for Urban Areas Across North America

August 24, 2023 - Ecopia & Nearmap announce a new partnership to develop next generation 3D vector mapping data products across more than 1,800 urban areas in North America.

August 24, 2023 – Toronto – Today, Ecopia AI (Ecopia) and Nearmap announce a partnership to develop advanced 3D mapping products across more than 1,800 urban areas in North America. Through this collaboration, Ecopia’s artificial intelligence (AI)-based mapping systems will extract high-precision map data across 1M+ unique square kilometers from Nearmap stereo and oblique imagery, providing stakeholders with a digital source of truth for the physical world. Nearmap sub-3-inch imagery and frequent imagery updates will enable Ecopia to update the dataset multiple times per year, ensuring end users have the most current representation of our dynamically changing world for analytics and decision making.

Examples of next generation 3D vector mapping data to be created through this partnership include:

  • advanced 3D buildings;
  • transportation networks and advanced road features, such as lane and intersection detail, shoulders, truncated domes, and pavement markings;
  • impervious surfaces and sub-classifications differentiated across roads, driveways, decks, patios, parking lots, walkways, sports fields, and;
  • other detailed land cover features and sub-classifications, such as 3D vegetation and individual trees.

The extremely high resolution of Nearmap imagery enables Ecopia to extract these advanced features with an unprecedented level of detail, powering a wide range of use cases in climate resilience building, natural disaster risk assessment and community planning. The unique ability for Nearmap to frequently capture such imagery in the most densely populated areas of the US and Canada ensures Ecopia’s systems are constantly detecting real-world change where it occurs most, producing invaluable insight into some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

“We are thrilled to partner with Ecopia to create next generation mapping products to our clients,” said Tony Agresta, Nearmap General Manager of North America. “Nearmap takes pride in producing the freshest, highest resolution imagery to power important work around the globe. Partnering with Ecopia enables us to deliver further value to our end users as they develop innovative solutions for communities and geographic regions.”

“Ecopia is on a mission to digitize the world using AI, and this partnership is an exciting step forward as we work towards that goal,” said Ecopia Co-Founder and President, Jon Lipinski. “The resolution and revisit times of Nearmap imagery offer uniquely detailed insight, supporting the creation of vector mapping products with an unprecedented level of detail.”
